The OULA Teacher Training explores the following elements:
-the philosophy and fun-damentals of OULA
-understanding music and its structure
-the formula used to sequence a series of movements within one song and eventually an entire class
-tools for learning choreography
-guidance in class preparation and instructing
-how to create your OULAgin community
-how to have a successful class and be a rock star instructor
One very important aspect of OULA is the atmosphere that can be created in the classes. When instructors get it right, they form connections not only with their movements, the music, and participants, but they get the participants to connect with each other as well—and then something really special happens… an OULA community is created!
As a new instructor, these will be some of your greatest challenges: creating the right atmosphere, building community and making your participants feel comfortable to let go and dance with reckless abandon. To help you through this process, OULA has developed a peer-to-peer mentorship program. We will be included in a private Facebook group with your training group and the Mentorship team who will support you through the following aspects:
· Playlist creation
· Verbal cueing
· Nonverbal cueing
· Atmosphere development
· Class introduction
. Creating a business as an OULA instructor
The mentorship program is designed to develop and strengthen relationships and support within the OULA community, help you through the certification process and answer any questions you may have along the way!
As a trainee, you will have access to a limited selection of dances until you become certified, at which time you will gain access to all of the OULA choreography–over 300 songs! Choreography is updated weekly with one new dance to keep your classes fresh and inspiring. Trainees also have access to the Trainee-Only log in page on our website.
After the training, you will have up to 3 months to prepare to teach a full hour-long OULA class. You will then submit a certification video (DVD, flashdrive or Google Drive file), along with a $50 fee and self-assessment to be reviewed by one of our Review Team Members. You will receive your feedback and certification paperwork within 2 weeks.
If you prefer more than the allocated three months to prepare for your certification class, you may extend your preparation time by 6 weeks for an additional $100.
Once certified, you will be asked to fill out a contract and submit an authorization form, as well as a voided check, and we will withdraw $25/month on the 5th of each month for 12 months. Or, if you prefer, you may send in a check for $275 ($25 discount) with your contract. Your contract and fee must be received within 2 weeks of passing your certification. You are not fully certified until your contract and fee have been received and you have received a certificate from OULA Fitness.
Please understand that certification through OULA Fitness does not guarantee you employment, and you will need to apply for positions at OULA-approved facilities to instruct as an OULA instructor. We will support you through this process as much as we are able. Keep in mind that most facilities will require you to be CPR certified, and some gyms may require you to be Group Fitness certified as well.
Attendance of this training will be worth 1.8 ACE CECs.
